78. In connection with the rebuilding of the Police Station at
the corner of Streatham High Road and Shrubbery Road, the
London County Council arranged for the main road to be widened
to 60 feet, the Borough Council contributing one-third of the
net cost of the improvement, which was estimated at £300.
79. By agreement with the owners of the Crooke Ellison
Estate, land on both sides of Greyhound Lane,
Streatham, was required to be given up for the
purpose of widening that road. In pursuance of this agreement a
strip of land on the north-western side of the Lane was added to the
public way after being levelled and covered with ashes, spur stones
being placed alongside the carriageway where necessary. The
Borough Council also took possession of a piece of land on the
south-eastern side of the road, and fixed spur stones on the new
boundary at the back of the hedge and bank, which it is proposed
should remain for the present. This hedge and bank can be removed
and the land levelled at any time the Council thinks fit.
