54. The Council has again had under consideration the
question of the regulation of lamps, signs, and
other structures overhanging the public way.
Applications were made to the County Council by the Borough
Councils of Lambeth and Fulham for regulations to be made for
administration by the Borough Councils, and this Council was
asked to support such applications. After consideration of all
the circumstances, this Council came to the conclusion that it
is not desirable for regulations to be made such as those
suggested, and the respective Borough Councils were so informed.
Speed limit for
motor traffic.
55. The Borough Council, upon further consideration, decided
not to proceed with the proposal referred to
in last year's report (page 53, par. 65), that a
regulation should be made limiting the speed of motor traffic
along High Street, Putney, to 10 miles an hour. The Council,
however, recently re-considered the matter, and in reply to a
communication from the London County Council decided to inform
that Council that, in the opinion of the Borough Council, the
circumstances of the case made it desirable that application should
be made to the Local Government Board for the imposition of a
reduced speed limit in High Street, Putney. Complaints
