70. Widenings of Streatham High Road at Streatham Green,
The Shrubbery, and Voss Court, have also been effected by the
London County Council in accordance with the agreement.
71. Attention having been called to the danger caused by the
narrowness of the road and the congestion of traffic at the end of
Streatham High Road near the Norbury tramway terminus, the
Borough Council asked the London County Council to take the
necessary steps with the view of effecting a widening of the road
and of the bridge there. The matter is under the consideration of
the County Council.
72. The Borough Council again repeated its application to
the London County Council for permission to round off the corner
of Streatham Common at the junction of Streatham High Road
and Streatham Common North, and also applied for consent to
the formation of a footpath on the Common adjoining the eastern
side of Streatham High Road. The County Council, however,
refused to allow either of these proposals to be carried out. The
Borough Council is still in communication with the County
Council on the subject.
Shrubbery
Road - Surplus
Land.
73. When the old Streatham Vestry Offices in Shrubbery
Road, Streatham, were disposed of, a narrow strip
of land at the junction of Shrubbery Road with
Streatham High Road was retained by the Council, as it was
thought possible that part of it would be required for the widening
of Streatham High Road in connection with the construction
of the tramways there. The arrangements made with the London
County Council for the widening of that thoroughfare do not,
however, affect the piece of land in question, and, the consent of
the Local Government Board having been obtained, the land was
sold to the owners of the adjoining premises in Streatham High
Road. In connection with the sale the Council arranged for the
corner at the junction of Shrubbery Road and Streatham High
Road to be rounded off and for the part of Shrubbery Road, upon
which the site abuts, to be widened to not less than 40 feet.
Tooting Bee
Gardens
Widening.
74. In connection with the development of the Woodlands
Estate for building purposes, an arrangement has
been made for the widening of the part of Tooting
Bee Gardens, Streatham, upon which the estate abuts. Steps
