64. The matter was further considered in April last, when the
Council passed the following resolution, viz.:—
"That, subject to this Council approving the form thereof, the
Borough Council is of opinion that the London County Council should be
asked to introduce a clause in its next General Powers Bill, with the view
of the regulation of traction engine traffic."
The Council's views on the subject were communicated to the
London County Council.

Putney, and
Roehampton
Lane.
65. Further complaint having been received of the danger to
the public arising from fast motor traffic in High
Street, Putney, the Borough Council again asked
the London County Council to apply to the Local
Government Board for a regulation to be made under the Motor
Car Act, 1903, limiting the speed of motor cars travelling along
the thoroughfare in question to 10 miles per hour. The matter is
now under the consideration of the County Council.
66. The London County Council having applied to the Local
Government Board for a regulation to be made under Section 9
(1) of the Motor Car Act, 1903, prescribing a maximum speed not
exceeding 10 miles an hour for motor cars passing along Roehampton
Lane, the Borough Council expressed the opinion that if
a speed limit was necessary in any portion of that thoroughfare it
should only be in respect of the part between the angle near
Rodway Road and a point just to the south of the Girls' School.
The views of the London County Council, the Borough Council,
and other interested parties, were placed before the Local Government
Board Inspector, who held a local enquiry into the matter
on the 28th February, 1910, and the Board, having considered his
report, made a regulation under the above-mentioned section of
the Act, but limited its application to the part of Roehampton
Lane extending from the northern extremity of the buildings of
the Convent of the Sacred Heart to the junction of the Lane with
Portsmouth Road. This includes the part of the road which the
Borough Council suggested should be dealt with. The regulation
came into operation on the 20th June, 1910.
