tion, Lambeth, respectively, have been submitted by the Board of
Education to the Council for its information.
66. The attention of the London County Council has been
drawn to the unsuitability of iron buildings for use
as permanent schools, and such Council was urged
to complete the West Hill School, Wandsworth, and thus do away
with the necessity for the iron buildings in use there. The County
Council stated in reply that iron buildings were only utilized to
meet urgent needs, steps being always taken to replace such
buildings by permanent premises, and that the use of the iron
buildings at West Hill would be discontinued on the opening of
the new "Southfields" School.

67. The County Council has given notice of its intention to
provide a new public elementary school for about
800 children in the district of Littleton Street,
Garratt Lane, Wandsworth, and to enlarge the school conducted
by such Council in the Workhouse of the Guardians of the Union
in Swaffield Road, Wandsworth, by providing additional accommodation
for about 108 children.

schools in the group, has been considered by the Council, and the
attention of the Council's Managers in question was drawn to the
return. The County Council was so informed, and that the Council
hoped this might result in better attendances at Managers' Meetings
and visits to the schools in future, but felt that until the
powers and duties of the Managers were largely increased, and
their reasonable requisitions supplied, there would be great difficulty
in inducing Managers to take more interest in the work of
the schools.

69. The Council decided to support the action of the Bermondsey
Borough Council in urging the London County Council
to enlarge the powers of School Managers, and appointed delegates

consider what further action could be taken in the matter. 25
