acquired for the cemetery in Magdalen Road, adjoining Earlsfield
Station. The suggestion was submitted to the Local Government
Board, who expressed their willingness to consider an application
of the Council for leave to erect the Mortuary and Coroner's
Court on the land in question. Enquiries were also made of the
London County Council with regard to the rent which that Council
would be willing to pay for the use of the Coroner's Court, if
erected. Several objections to the Council's proposal were received
from residents in the district.
62. A Departmental Committee having been appointed to
enquire into the law relating to Coroners and Coroners' Inquests,
and into the practice in Coroners' Courts. Alderman Anderson,
Chairman of the Public Health Committee, gave evidence on
behalf of the Council with reference to the boundaries of the
coroners' districts in the Borough, and the difficulties which the
Council has experienced in the matter of the provision of a
Mortuary and Coroner's Court. The Departmental Committee
also considered as to making recommendations that Parliament
should empower authorities such as the London County Council
and this Council to apply to the Privy Council for an Order in
Council for the better allotment and administration of coroners'
duties, and that the duty now imposed upon inquest juries to view
bodies should be abolished. The question of proceeding further
with the proposal has been adjourned, pending the report of the
Departmental Committee.
63. Other information relating to public health is contained
in the Medical Officer's Report, Appendix H.
64. The scheme for the administration of the Foundations of
the St. Mary's National Schools, Summerstown,

present premises, the proceeds to be invested, and the yearly
