Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
"No. 6 district. With regard to No. 6 district, which included
the whole of Tooting and the southern portion of Balham
Wards, I would propose that a considerable portion of
Tooting be added to No. 10 district. No. 6 district would
then have an area of 682 acres and a population of 27,500.
During the past seven years the number of cases of infectious
diseases has increased considerably, as well as the
amount of sanitary supervision necessary. I would also
propose that the new Inspector, Mr. Robert Brown, be
appointed to this district.
"No. 7 district. The old district included a portion of the South
Ward, Clapham, but owing to the large increase in the
population of the South Ward and the proposed division of
the Streatham Ward I would propose that the North
Ward, Clapham, should constitute one Sanitary Inspector's
district, with an area of 487 acres and an estimated population
of 32,000.
"No. 8 district. With regard to No. 8 district, which included a
portion of Streatham, I would propose that this district
should comprise the whole of the South Ward, Clapham,
which has an area of 588 acres and an estimated population
of 36,200.
"No. 9 district. This district would include the greater portion
of Streatham Ward with an area of 1,528 acres and an
estimated population of 37,000. This district, although
large in area and in population, has a considerable amount
of land which is not at present built on, and it also contains
the whole of Streatham Common and a portion of
Tooting Bec Common. The houses are inhabited by persons
of good social standing, and a large proportion of the
district does not at present require much sanitary supervision.
I would propose that Mr. Herbert E. Brown, who
is at present the Inspector for No. 6 district, should be
appointed to this district, and that he should reside in the
district.
