Amongst the properties against which Closing Orders were made were
Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, Elliott's Place. These houses have long been a
source of trouble to the borough, for not only were they unhealthy owing ro
the confined space in which they were built and to the lack of through ventilation,
but they were also occupied by undesirable people. Closing Orders were,
however, made against the premises on the 19th January, which were followed
by demolition orders on the 4th October, and finally their demolition was
accomplished by April of the current year.
