HOUSING, TOWN PLANNING, Etc., ACT, 1909.
The administration of this Act is a very important duty which devolves
on the Borough Council. In his report for 1911 the Medical Officer of Health
gave a memorandum which the Local Government Board issued in 1910, one
of the provisions of which requires that the Local Authority shall, as part of
their procedure, cause a thorough inspection to be carried out from
time to time according to the varying needs or circumstances of the dwelling
houses or localities in the district of the Local Authority; and that a Local
Authority shall cause to be prepared from time to time by the Medical Officer
of Health, or by an officer designated by them, but acting under his direction
and supervision, a list or lists of dwelling houses, the early inspection of which
is, in the opinion of the Medical Officer of Health, desirable. The list or
lists may, if thought fit, relate to the dwelling-houses within a defined area of
the district without specifying each house separately therein.
These Regulations have been duly complied with and a house to house
visitation of areas, approved by the Public Health Committee, is now being
carried out by the District Sanitary Inspectors.
Since 1910 up to the present time, Closing Orders have been made with
respect to many properties, particulars of which are given in the following
tabulated statement:—
