It has also to be reported with respect to the house to house visitation that,
as already stated in that part of this report dealing with district inspection, that
910 house to house inspections were made under the Act, as contrasted with
701 in 1911, and 934 in 1910.
It is to be regretted that more work of this character could not be under
taken, but inasmuch as the duties devolving on the inspectorial staff were very
heavy, it was impossible for them to do more than they did. The work
accomplished has, however, been satisfactory, and must be fruitful in good
results.
The Medical Officer of Health has already pointed out that house to house
inspection has always been a great feature in the work of the Sanitary
Inspectors of Islington, who have from 1899 to the present time examined in
the course of these systematic inspections 16,849 houses.
The Housing and Town Planning Act has undoubtedly proved a very
great help to sanitary authorities in dealing with insanitary properties, and the
Medical Officer of Health, while regretting that he has been unable to enforce
its provisions more widely, yet hopes to accomplish much good by it during
the years to come.
