Some 10 per cent, of the adult males are in institutions; 49 per cent,
are at work; 40 per cent, at home and ambulant, whilst some 1 per cent,
are confined to bed at home. On the other hand, 6 per cent, of the adult
females are in institutions; 35 per cent, at work; 43 per cent, are able
to attend to their household duties, whilst 15 per cent, are at home and
walking about, and the remaining 1 per cent, at home in bed.
The Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1924.
The number of unnotified deaths during the year was 24; the
corresponding percentage proportions are 28-7 per cent. (1933) and 24-2
per cent. (1934). Enquiries were made, but in no instance did there
appear to be neglect to notify a case on the part of a medical practitioner.
16 deaths occurred in institutions and 8 at home.
Public Health (Prevention of Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925.
The object of these regulations is to prevent anyone who is aware that
he is suffering from an infectious form of tuberculosis from engaging in
certain departments of the milk trade. There was no occasion for
exercising the powers conferred by these regulations during 1934.

Of the 218 cases removed from the register during the year 1934,
99 were on account of death, 114 persons suffering from tuberculosis
moved from the City, notification was withdrawn in 1 case, and 4 cases
recovered.
Deaths from Tuberculosis.—The total number of deaths from tuberculosis
for 1934 (all forms) was 99—Males 66, Females 33. This gives a
death-rate for this disease of 0-79 per 1,000. The following table shows
the number of deaths from tuberculosis for the last 5 years, together
with the death-rate.
