Bakehouses.—At the ei)d of 1923 there were 21 above-ground and
59 underground in use. During 1924 two underground were reported
to be not at present used. All the bakehouses were inspected, and
cleansing carried out twice a year.
Milkshops.—At the end of 1924, 494 names of persons selling milk
were upon the register. These include 8 persons selling milk on rounds,
who had no shop or store.
1,730 visits were paid during the year to premises in which milk is
sold.
Proceedings were taken against 1 itinerant vendor of cream and
milk for not having his own name and address on his barrow. Fined
40s. and 20s. costs.
Cowhouse.—There is only one remaining, licensed for 6 cows, but
none have been kept during the past year.
There are no slaughter-houses in Westminster.

Inspection of Food.—The food exposed for sale in shops and on stalls
in the street markets has been regularly inspected every day (including
Sundays). The following list shows the quantity of food condemned
and destroyed during the year. The bulk of it was submitted by the
owners or purchasers for the opinion of your officers :—

60 lbs. Corned Beef, 158 Rabbits, 4 Hams, 86 lbs. Plaice, 10 lbs. Halibut, 6 cwt. Peppers
in Vinegar, 28 lbs. Dried Milk.
Certificates to enable articles of food to be exported to the United
States and Canada were granted in 8 instances.
