Wards. | Persons. | Males. | Females. | Private Families. | Population in private Families. |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Information is now available relating to the various wards of the City.
There is a reduction in the total population in each ward, but the rate
varies very considerably, thus in Victoria Ward it is only 1 * 1 per cent.,
while in Great Marlborough Ward it is 39.4 per cent, of the 1911 population.
Percentage reduction in population between 1911 and 1921:—
Victoria | 1.1 | St. John | 16.0 |
Grosvenor | 2.4 | Covent Garden | 16.8 |
Regent | 3.2 | St. Margaret | 18.0 |
Charing Cross | 5.2 | Conduit | 19.0 |
Pall Mall | 5.3 | St. Anne | 27.8 |
Knightsbridge St. George | 8.9 | Strand | 38.8 |
Great Marlborough | 39.4 | ||
Knightsbridge Hamlet | 13.0 |
In Grosvenor, Pall Mall, Regent and Victoria Wards the decreases
shown are entirely in the male population, there being an actual increase
in the number of females.
In Conduit, the Hamlet and Knightsbridge St. George the reduction
is chiefly in the male population. The Victoria and Hamlet Wards show
an increase in the number of private families.
In St. John's Ward the males used to number more than the females,
now they are in a minority. In the Strand the reduction in the female
population is considerable, 1,549 to 714. Since 1901, Conduit, Great
Marlborough, Regent, St. Anne, Strand, and St. Margaret Wards show the
greatest proportional diminution in population, due chiefly to the conversion
of residential property into business premises.
