In Table IV. I have given the figures representing the
estimated populations of the Sub.Districts of the Parish,
calculated on the same rate of increase (or decrease in the
case of the Hanover Square Sub.District) as prevailed from
1861 to 1871, and various particulars relating to the births
and deaths in each of the Sub.Districts and in the whole
Parish.
The birth.rates are corrected to 52 weeks, and the death.
rates are corrected for the deaths in Public Institutions, and
also to 52 weeks.
From this Table it appears that the corrected birth.rates
and death.rates of the Hanover Square Sub.District are
identical, so that during the year the population of that
Sub.District has been "stationary."
The death.rate of the Hanover Square Sub.District is
higher than that of either of the other Sub.Districts, while
the birth.rate is lower.
From Table IVa. it appears that the birth.rate of each
of the Sub.Districts has decreased somewhat since last year,
the rates approximating to those of 1877; and that the
death.rate of the Hanover Square Sub.District has decidedly
increased (being higher than in any year mentioned in the
Table), and that of Mayfair slightly so, while that of Belgravia
has diminished, and is almost as low as in the
exceptional year 1877.
The death.rate of the Parish as a whole is a trifle over
the rates for 1876 and 1878.
