Numerous small lots of damaged fruit have been dealt with in
a satisfactory manner.
Factory and Workshops.
In three instances direct aerial communication between workshops
and water closets has been altered, proper partitions and
ventilated skylights being provided. Additional workshops have
been found and placed on the register for regular inspection, and
the register altered as required.
Limewashing and cleansing have been carried out in many
instances by verbal intimation only, no service of notices being
required.
Outworkers.
The various premises where outworkers live have been visited
and found in fairly good condition.
Underground Bakehouse.
The underground bakehouse which was not finished (respecting
the alterations required) at the end of 1903, is now completed,
and is in occupation by a different tenant. As the former occupier
continued to carry on his business without a certificate of fitness
from the Council and in defiance of the Council's notices, he was
summoned and fined 20s. and 23s. costs, and an order made to
discontinue carrying on work till the alterations were completed
and approved by the Council.
Smoke Nuisance.
All observations of black smoke from the factory chimneys and
shafts in the district, notified from the L.C.C., and also my own
observations have been dealt with.
It was not found necessary to take legal proceedings in any
instances respecting the above. All notices served in connection
with these observations have been attended to and met as far as
possible.
