Public Health Department,
31st December, 1904.
To the Medical Officer of Health.
Sir,
I beg to lay before you my fourth Annual Report of the
sanitary work and other duties carried out under the different Acts
in connection therewith, in the West Combined district, during the
past 12 months, rendering as far as possible a detailed account of
nuisances abated, inspections made, summonses applied for, etc.
In investigating complaints and making inspections of all kinds,
1.376 houses or other premises have been visited, 323 of this
number being on account of infectious diseases, and 133 being
house-to-house visits.
The number of re-inspections necessary to follow up the Statutory
Notices, and to see the work through totalled 3,787.
On account of the L.C.C. making Chicken Pox a notifiable
disease, during some portion of the year the number of notifications
were considerably swelled, the 323 mentioned also included those
from the Poplar Union, and from the Sick Asylum.
House-to-Huuse Inspection.
The house-to-house visits were confined principally to premises
that (according to the list which you had prepared) had escaped
attention during the past 11 years, and many defective drains were
thereby discovered. During the forthcoming year I hope to finish
the list

These visits were carried out in the under-mentioned places, viz.: —

Alton Street.Barchester Street.
Annabel Street.Clifton Street.
Broomfield Street.Cruden Place.
Brabazon Street.Cording Street.
