same powers of entry as they have in the case of slaughter-houses
and knackers' yards, and if the Council make default in performing
this duty, the provisions of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891,
shall apply as if the default were a default under that Act."
The second schedule, part I., of the same Act, transfers from the
London County Council to the Metropolitan Borough Councils, the
power under section 28 of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, of
registering dairymen.
A return obtained from the Medical Officer of the London County
Council showed that the number of milk shops at the time were 109
in Poplar, and 159 in Bromley.
A register was prepared and laid before the Public Health
Committee.
It was customary when a person wished to register as a dairyman
or purveyor of milk, at the London County Council, to supply him
with a copy of the regulations as to dairies, cow-sheds, and milk
stores, so that there could be no excuse on his part that he did not
know his obligations.
The Committee directed that such a practice should be continued.
The inspection of the dairies and milk shops of a district is a most
important duty in order to secure the cleanliness of the fixtures and
tables of milk stores, milk shops, and the utensils and vessels used
for containing milk, so as to preserve the purity of the milk, which is
such a staple article of diet.
For the carrying out of the registration and inspection of the
dairies and milk shops of the borough, the Committee directed that
like forms should be adopted.
The inspectors visited the registered milk shops and milk stores
according to the list forwarded by the London County Council.
