BIRTHS.
During the year 2,708 births were registered in the Borough, comprising 1/399 of males, 1,308
of females, and 1 of a child whose sex was not determinable. For the sake of convenience the
last-mentioned birth has throughout this report been included with the figures relating to males.
The crude birth-rate was 19.06 per 1,000 persons, as compared with a rate of 19.58 in 1913, and
an average for the five years (1909-13) of 19.89. There were 35 twin births—10 less than in
