the corrections made day by day, shows that the preliminary search for " repeat" notifications
was unsuccessful in 23 instances. Owing to wrong descriptions of the patients and new
addresses, the identity of a patient is frequently not discovered until the case has been visited.
The allocation of notified cases to the Wards of the Borough, although incomplete by reason of
the limited range of the Orders, viz., to Poor Law and institutional cases, is not without interest.
The largest number of cases (114) was reported from Harrow Road Ward, and the smallest from
Lancaster Gate, East. The variations in the frequencies of cases and deaths in the Wards is
shown below.

In Table 26 the numbers of cases certified medically or informally reported by the various
agencies, the extent of repeat notification and the actual numbers of new cases reported, are
shown in detail. In the lower part of the same table the histories of the cases during the year
are given. Of the total of 671 new patients coming to the knowledge of the Department, 582
remained on the register at the end of the year. Among the patients medically certified there
were 65 deaths (57 being certified as due to pulmonary tuberculosis), and among those not
medically certified, 6 deaths (1 only certified as due to consumption). The sex-age distribution
of the new cases and deaths is given in Table 27. Table 28 is a sort of "balance sheet" of the
occupations of the reported patients, showing those of the surviving patients from 1910, those of
the new (1911) patients, and those of the persons dying during the year. The total number
of patients (both those medically and those not medically certified) on the Register during
the past year was 1,806 (790 males and 1,016 females).
