TUBERCULOSIS.
TUBERCULOSIS.
The deaths from all forms of tuberculosis during the year numbered 212, or 12 in excess of
the annual average for the five years (1906-10). It should be noted that there were 5 deaths
from all forms of tuberculosis among the " inward transfers," so that the excess for last year
—according to the old system of correcting deaths—was 7, not 12. The mortality rate for the
year was 1'48 per 1,000 persons, 0'09 in excess of the mean rate (1'39) for 1906-10. The rates
for the individual years are given below:—
Tuberculosis: Mortality Rates per 1,000 Persons.
1911. 1910. 1909. 1908. 1907. 1906
1.48 1 .19 1.42 1.32 1.53 1.50
A complete tabulation of the various forms of tuberculosis as certified during the year is
appended, in which the sexes are distinguished and the ages given in five yearly groups. The
classification of the deaths has been in accordance with the " New List" of causes of death, and
the rules laid down by the Registrar-General. This is the first occasion on which such a
complete tabulation has been attempted.

In Table 23 the deaths from tuberculosis (all forms) allocated to the Wards are shown by
sex in wider age-groups, and (in smaller type) the numbers of deaths from the four principal
forms of tuberculosis. It will be noticed that there was not a single death from any form of
tuberculosis during the year in Lancaster Gate, West, Ward.
