INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
Milk Supply.
Dairies and Milkshops.—The number of premises registered
under the provisions of the Milk and Dairies Order, 1926, is 127, and
in addition, 312 retailers were registered for the sale of milk in
bottles or cartons, it being a condition that the milk is not to be sold
otherwise than in the closed and unopened receptacles in which it
was delivered to the premises.
The inspections of these premises during the year numbered
529.
Cowhouses.—There is now only one licensed cowhouse in the
Borough, and this was inspected four times during the year.
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1923.—Licences for the
production or sale of milk under the designations provided by the
above-named Order were issued for the year 1938, as follows : —

Bacteriological Examination of Milk.—Samples of milk for
bacteriological examination were taken as under:—
Pasteurised, Milk— 28 samples, all of which complied with the
standard laid down in the Milk (Special Designations) Order.
Undesignated Milk—12 samples, 6 of which gavea positive reaction
to the test for the coli-form bacillus.
Slaughterhouses.—Under the provisions of the London County
Council (Transfer of Powers) Order, 1933, the Council is now
responsible for the licensing of slaughterhouses, and the following
premises have been licensed: —
