Notice of intention to slaughter must be given to the Public
Health Department, and all carcases are examined before being
offered for sale.
During the year, the Sanitary Inspectors made 268 attendances
at the slaughter-houses for this purpose, and details of the animals
killed and inspected are set out in the following table, on the form
specified by the Ministry of Health:—

Restaurants and Eating-houses.—There are 129 establishments
of this description on the Register, and during the year, 489 inspections
were made.
Bakehouses.—There are 78 bakehouses on the Register, and 292
inspections of these were made during the year.
Food Shops and Stalls.—Inspections of these premises during
the year numbered 1,238.
