It has been noticed that there has been a large increase in the number and
variety of imported food and delicacies from both Europe and Asia. Many of these
have been included in the samples procured.
Generally, the foods themselves were found to be quite satisfactory, the
faults found, being, understandably perhaps, in connection with the labelling.
BACTERIOLOGICAL AND OTHER EXAMINATIONS
The following samples were submitted to the Public Health Laboratory for
examination. The article marked with an asterisk was suspected of having
caused food poisoning, but in this case the food poisoning organism was not
isolated.

Ice Cream Sponge Cake 2
Ice Cream 6
Milk bottles 80
*Corned beef 1
The 6 samples of ice cream were found to be satisfactory.
Samples of milk were submitted to the Public Health Laboratory for examination
under the Milk (Special Designation) Regulations as follows:-
Methylene Blue Test 375
(1 was void, the atmospheric shade temperature being
over 65ยบ F).
Thirteen failed to satisfy the prescribed test.
Phosphatase Test 347
One failed to satisfy the prescribed test.
Of the thirteen samples of milk which failed the Methylene Blue Test 6 were
of the raw milk bottled on the farm. The other seven failures were of milk
pasteurised in the Borough.
