The first application for the improvement of a dwelling outside an
Improvement Area was received from a tenant of a house which was amenable to
this procedure and a Preliminary Notice under Section 19 of the Housing Act 1964
was issued. This could well be the first of several such applications in the future.
The department dealt with applications for both Standard and Discretionary
Grants and it is pleasing to record that owners are becoming increasingly aware
of the help they can receive financially and technically in converting properties
and the provision of the basic standard amenities.
