Notices Served.—There were 4,535 intimation notices served by the inspectors
with respect to nuisances. In 583 instances it became necessary, as the intimations
to owners or occupiers of the properties had been ignored, to serve statutory notices
as directed by the Public Health Committee.
Rag Flock.—In the routine inspection, the Sanitary Inspectors found no
cause for action to be taken. Three samples of rag flock were examined by the
Public Analyst, and reported to be satisfactory.
Smoke Nuisances.—Thirty-three complaints of smoke issuing from factory
chimneys in the Borough were investigated. As a result 69 observations were
made by the District Inspectors, and 7 notices requiring the abatement of the
nuisances were served upon the owners concerned.
Water Certificates.—Twenty-four water certificates were granted in accordance
with the provisions of section 95 (2) of the Public Health (London) Act, 1936,
in respect of 499 separate tenements and 11 shops newly erected or rebuilt during
the year.
WATER SUPPLY.
Number of houses which have not an adequate internal water supply, i.e.,
water supply from taps only, in yard, 32.
