Steel-framed shed for paper baling and baling apparatus;
Steel-framed drying chamber for workmen's clothes;
Concrete platform for washing vehicles and offal bins, with a steel framed
shed over it;
Steriliser for offal bins;
Small incinerator to deal with mattresses and light combustible material;
Boiler to raise steam for sterilising and drying purposes;
Fifty feet high firebrick lined self-supporting steel chimney;
Brick-built combined electrical sub-station and switch and meter house.
All refuse is sent by rail to contractors' dumps and dealt with in accordance
with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, as heretofore. The dumps
are frequently inspected by the Cleansing Committee and the Superintendent of
the Cleansing Department and by the local sanitary authorities.
REMOVAL OF DUST.
Twenty-five applications were received during the year by the Public Health
Department for the removal of dust.

During this year the Council's Scheme (under which attention is drawn to
damaged dustbins through the Cleansing Department's staff) came into effective
operation. The Cleansing Superintendent reports that as a result 1,527 dustbins
were provided by owners of property. In addition, 288 were provided in consequence
of the service of nuisance notices by the Public Health Department.
DISTRICT INSPECTORS' WORK.
During the year the fourteen District Inspectors made a total of 44,482 inspections
and calls, a decrease of 4,165 inspections on the corresponding period of 1936;
while 13,706 improvements were effected in 5,215 premises; as against 15,365
improvements in 6,307 premises for the preceding year.
