is a " Review " Report. The Care Committee express their indebtedness for the
active co-operation they have received from the Public Assistance Committee
Officers in necessitous cases, the British Legion for their help in regard to ex-service
men, the Charity Organisation Society, and the Mayor's Christmas Dinner Fund,
from which the Committee were allocated 22 Christmas dinner parcels for the poor
and deserving patients. They place on record among help received from others,
the special work of Mrs. Alice Twidell, their member and voluntary social worker.
Perhaps the most outstanding feature was the untiring efforts of the Chairman,
Mr. W. G. Harris, in launching under the auspices of the National Association for
the Prevention of Tuberculosis, to which the After-Care Committee is affiliated, the
Christmas Seal Sale appeal, the receipts from which totalled £71, and the net profit
percentage being the best of all the London Boroughs. The careful administration
and discreet handling of such a fund enables many needy cases to be assisted that
are of urgent necessity.
Not least among the activities is the handicraft class which meets every week
by kind permission at the Royal Chest Hospital. This occupation of convalescent
patients, giving them something to occupy their minds and hands, keeping them
from morbid reflections on their condition, has indeed a very beneficial effect. The
movement is deserving of greater interest being shown to it by the outside public
than obtains at present. For examples of the individual kind of work, visitations,
and the results obtained, reference is made to the instances given in last year's
Annual Report of the Medical Officer of Health, and to fresh items in the After-Care
Committee's report to the Public Health Committee.
During the year it is reported that there have been 389 new cases, 1,632 visits
paid, 2,115 letters written, and 734 interviews.
PUBLIC HEALTH (TUBERCULOSIS) REGULATIONS, 1930. .
The provisions of these Regulations continue to be systematically carried out
with regard to the Register of Notified Cases of Tuberculosis. A quarterly
revision of the Register is made by the removal of the names of patients who
have died, left the district, and those, who in the opinion of the Tuberculosis
Officer, confirmed by the L.C.C. Medical Officer, should be denotified.
The following is a statistical statement showing the number of cases of
Notified Tuberculosis on the register at the commencement of the year, the
numbers, removed during that period, and the actual number remaining at the
close of the year 1935.
