The following statement gives the ages at which persons died in the Borough, and contrasts them with the returns for the preceding ten years :—

There was a decrease of 242 deaths in the number of deaths under 5 years of
age when compared with the average deaths at those ages during the preceding
ten years; whilst the number of registered deaths at the several age periods up
to between 5-55 years, were also below the decennial average.
The deaths of aged people between the age period 65 years and upwards
showed a decrease of 26 in the number of deaths when contrasted with the previous
year 1934, and 90 below the ten years' average (1925-34).
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Infant Deaths, 240; Mortality Rate, 52.—The deaths of 240 infants
under twelve months old were registered during the year, or 119 below the
decennial average (359), and they were equal to the infantile rate of 52 per 1,000
births. This is the lowest rate on record. The rate was 13 per 1,000 births below
