There was a decrease of 190 deaths in the number of deaths under 5 years of
age when compared with the average deaths at those ages during the preceding
ten years; whilst the number of registered deaths at the several age periods up
to between 5-55 years, were also below the decennial average.
The deaths of aged people between the age period 65 years and upwards
showed a decrease of 62 in the number of deaths when contrasted with the previous
year 1932, and were 73 above the ten years' average (1923-32).
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Infant Deaths, 288; Mortality Rate, 63.—The deaths of 288 infants
under twelve month's old were registered during the year, or 106 below the
decennial average (394), and they were equal to the infantile rate of 63 per 1,000
births. Ihe lowest rate on record, however, is 53 per thousand births in the vear
