certification of meat food products for shipment
ABROAD.
The Medical Ollicer of Health, as Designated Officer for Food Certification,
issued 35 certificates in respect of foods prepared in Islington and exported abroad
and to the Dominions.
UNSOUND FOOD DESTROYED.
The food destroyed or otherwise disposed of so as to prevent its use for human food was as follows :—

The total amount of unsound or diseased meat, fish, fruit, and other food
destroyed was 9 tons 10 cwt. 1U lbs. The diseases which affected animal food are
set out in detail on page 73.
LICENSED STREET TRADERS IN THE BOROUGH OF ISLINGTON
FOR THE YEAR 1931.
Meat, etc., 25, Fish, Poultry, Rabbits, 4, flee Cream 45, Confectionery,
Minerals, etc., 15, *Grocery, Provisions, Tinned Food, etc., 61, Coffee Stalls,
etc., 11, Fruit, Vegetables, Greengrocery, etc., 250.

Shops, etc., Inspection of.—The 772 shops and places where foodstuffs
are sold may be approximated for the year as follows:—
Butchers, provision dealers, etc., shops, 260; meat, provisions, rabbits, tinned
foods, etc., stalls, 32; food preparation establishments, 10; fish shops, 11G ; fish
stalls, 14; fruit shops, 220; and about 120 fruit, etc., stalls and barrows, including
meat, poultry, fish and fruit stalls in the Metropolitan Cattle Market inspected on
Tuesdays and Fridays. To these 25,095 visits were paid, apportioned as follows :

It is only by regular and constant supervision, considering the large number
of street traders and itinerent vendors in the Borough, that the quality and soundness
of the food stuffs can be maintained. On a few occasions even with this
supervision costermongers have been found exposing for sale bad or doubtful
