INSPECTION AND EXAMINATION OF FOOD AND PLACES WHERE
FOOD IS PREPARED.
Inspector Wilkinson reports that during the year the number of animals
slaughtered in the 13 private slaughter-houses within the Borough, including one
slaughter-house where horses are slaughtered for export for human consumption,
is decreasing annually. The number of visits paid to these during 1931 was 540,
and it has been ascertained that 292 oxen, 2 calves, 4,007 sheep and lambs, and
2 pigs were slaughtered; also 2,694 horses for export. No carcase or "part of a
carcase" was seized or surrendered on account of disease, and only quite a small
number of diseased organs were found. (Vide Table on page 73.) There is a
high standard of quality in the animals slaughtered, as has also been shown in
previous years.
