MARRIAGES.
Marriages, 2,883; Marriage Rate, 17-8.—There were 5,766 persons
married or 2,883 marriages, in 1928, and the marriage rate, that is to say, the
number of persons married per 1,000 of the population was 17.8. Compared with
the previous year these figures show an increase of 78 in the number of persons
married, or of 39 marriages; and of 0.8 per 1,000 in the rate.

BIRTHS.
During the year there was 5,790 live births registered, of which 2,945 were
boys and 2,845 girls. Of this number, however, 1,021 were born of mothers
living in Islington, although they were confined in Lying-in Institutions, and in
other homes situated outside the Borough. The annual birth-rate was equal
to 17.8 per 1,000 of the population, as compared with a mean birth-rate of 20.6
in the preceding ten years.
It was the lowest birth-rate since the year 1918, when it was 16.2.
