Illegitimate Births (249). The illegitimate births numbered 249 and
show a decrease of 67 on the return of the year 1927. They were equal to a rate
of 4.3 per cent, of the total registered births.

† Of the total number (146) registered still-births, 33 were not notified under the
Notification of Births Act, 1907; therefore, the total still-births coming to the
knowledge of the Medical Officer of Health during the year was 159 (i.e.,
126 + 33) or 26.9 per 1,000 total births (including still-born).
