age of 45 and 9 females of whom 4 were over the age of 45. There
was one non-pulmonary tuberculosis case, a female with tuberculous
glands. Twelve patients were transferred in.
Of the 7 ante-natal patients X-rayed none was found to have
active tuberculosis. Some 120 contacts of persons with tuberculosis
or children with positive Mantoux tests and their parents were
X-rayed and none had active tuberculosis. Twenty-five children
with positive tuberculin tests were referred to us from school but
none was found to have active disease and 62 children and young
adults were given B.C.G. inoculation because their tuberculin tests
were negative.
In the course of the year there was a total of 7,025 attendances
at the Clinic. These included new tuberculous patients and
tuberculous contacts previously mentioned as well as the follow-up
supervision of many old-standing tuberculous patients and the 1,992
who were referred for X-ray only. Other chest conditions which
were referred to the Clinic for investigation included bronchitis,
asthma and carcinoma and many of these patients were kept under
supervision. A total of 4,945 X-ray units were taken. On the
Welfare side, both supportive and financial help was given to many
patients as before."
Woolwich and Brook Chest Clinics
I am also indebted to Dr. A MacManus, Consultant Physician
at the Woolwich and Brook Chest Clinics for the following Report:
"The major change which occurred during the year was the long
awaited transfer of the Woolwich Chest Clinic from Maxey Road
to St. Nicholas Hospital. This took place on the 15th September,
1969, and was carried out efficiently and the Clinic is now working
smoothly.
The total attendance at the Clinics during 1969 was 6,482 of
which 1,031 were new patients. The number of tuberculous notifications during the year was 25.
