In each case the disease was contracted abroad and the patients
were admitted to hospital for treatment.
No fatalities were recorded.
Infective Jaundice
Persons notified as having infective jaundice during the year
totalled 20 compared with 28 in 1968.
Ten patients were admitted into hospital but there were no
recorded deaths.
Leprosy
No case was recorded during the current year a situation similar
to that of the previous year.
Tuberculosis
There were 47 notifications received during the year and, of these
39 were of the pulmonary type and 8 non-pulmonary, i.e. tuberculosis of parts of the body other than the lungs. From sources other
than formal notification there were 5 cases, all of the pulmonary
type. One was posthumously notified and the others were derived
from the death returns. In 1968 some 46 pulmonary and 17 nonpulmonary cases were notified giving a consolidated figure of 63.
Although not always essential, disinfection was offered and
carried out in 11 cases including 10 rooms.
During 1969, some 2,280 Greenwich school children and students
received B.C.G. vaccination under the direction of School Medical
Officers. A further 186 contacts were also vaccinated.
