Taste:
Three complaints regarding unusual taste in food were received
during the year as under-
Corned beef - salty.
Fresh steak - tangy.
Smell of disinfectant in non-alcholic drink.
None of these cases was considered serious enough to warrant legal
proceedings and in every case the supplier and the complainant were
interviewed and satisfactory arrangements made between them.

Meat Inspection:
The boundary of the Finsbury Borough Council is adjacent to the
Smithfield Meat Market, and in this particular area there are a large number
of wholesale butchers and offal shops, bacon and provision warehouses,
poultry, game and rabbit shops.
Some of these wholesale butchers trade in meat of a low quality, e.g.
old cows, bulls, sheep, sow and boar carcases, which are mostly 'boned-out'
for use in the manufacturing trade. The area inspector is engaged full time
in seeing that these carcases are examined to see that no diseased meat is
passed on to the public.
