Bacteriological Examination of Food
The pathological laboratory in the Health Centre was used whenever
possible during the year for the routine examination of various
types of food and whenever suspicion of contamination arose.

Details of milk and ice cream examinations are given elsewhere, but the following additional foods were examined during 1956:

In general the bacterial quality of these foods was found to be
satisfactory except in the case of the canned milk and certain of the
veal and pork products. With regard to the former. 2 out of 6 tins
of evaporated milk examined were found to contain staphylococci
organisms and formed part of a consignment retailed at a reduced price
originally released as old stock by the Ministry of Pood for manufacturing
