One informal sample of vinegar was found to be adulterated. A
formal sample was purchased and proceedings instituted against the
vendor.
An informal sample of Friar's Balsam was found to be deficient in
total solids. A formal sample was purchased and the same deficiency
was reported on this sample and the manufacturers were communicated
with in the matter.
A statement on the label of a sample of chlorophyll tablets made
what was considered to be, excessive claims in respect of the product
and the facts were reported to the British Pharmaceutical Society.
Food Complaints
Fifteen complaints in respect of alleged unsound or adulterated
food purchased from shops in the borough were received from members of
the public during the year. In every case an investigation was
carried out and a report submitted to the Health Committee. Legal
proceedings were recommended in 3 instances, all of which were successful.
in the remaining twelve cases action appropriate to the circumstances
was taken.
