ORTHOPÆDIC TREATMENT.
Children who on attendance at any infant consultation
or at the Toddlers' Clinic show evidence of
any need for Orthopaedic treatment are referred to the
Queen's Hospital for Children with a card from the
doctor. By arrangement of the Borough Council they
are seen by an Orthopaedic Surgeon and suitable
treatment is prescribed. Massage and Artificial Sunlight
are given at the Welfare Centre but the children
report to the surgeon at intervals as required.
Children may be admitted to hospital if surgical
treatment should be necessary.
A " follow up " scheme to ensure regular attendances
at the hospital is working well and our thanks
are due to the Almoner at the Queen's Hospital for her
interested co-operation. More children attended than
in 1933 and in spite of the fact that a number of parents
still refuse to allow their children to receive treatment
the importance and great value of this scheme is being
realised steadily.
Completion of treatment and cure of these conditions
is necessarily slow, so that the small number
recorded below as cured is no index to the work done.
All the children attending are making steady progress
and it is only a question of time before most of these
will be included under this heading.
