The death-rate during 1933 was lowest in the St. John Ward
(9.8), and highest in Shaftesbury Ward (14.5). The deaths of
persons over 65 years numbered 928 or 48.2 per cent. of the total
deaths. The average age at death was 56-8 years, as compared
with 55.7 in 1932 and 55.3 in 1931. Decreased death-rates were
recorded in three Wards'of the Borough.

The natural increase of population (that is the excess of births
over deaths) was 339 in 1933 as compared with 424 in 1932.
Deaths in Public Institutions.
During 1933 the deaths of Battersea residents occurring in
Public Institutions numbered 1,107. Of this number 590 occurred
within and 517 outside the Borough. Of the total Battersea
deaths in Institutions 753 occurred in Public Assistance
Institutions.
