The birth-rate shows a decline in four Wards of the Borough
and an increase in the five remaining Wards. The birth-rate in
Battersea is 2.4 per 1,000 lower than the average for the previous
decennium 1923-1932.
The birth-rate for the County of London was 13-2 per 1,000
of the population, and for England and Wales the rate was 14.4.
Illegitimate births numbered 101 or 4 46 per cent, of the total
live births.
Under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1926, the
registration of still-births was made compulsory. During 1933
65 stillbirths were registered as belonging to Battersea.
