On 13th February, 1962, the Council made a Compulsory Purchase
Order in respect of the clearance area Nos. 375 to 401 (odd)
Portobello Road and Nos. 5 to 11 (odd) Telford Road. The Compulsory
Purchase Order included the sites Nos. 5 to 11 (odd) Lionel Mews, as
adjoining land, the acquisition of which is reasonably necessary for
the satisfactory development of the area.
A public local inquiry was held on 21st June, 1962, and the
Order was subsequently confirmed by the Minister with certain modifications.
The modifications are the exclusion of No.7 Telford Road
(as the property had been acquired by the Council), and the transfer
of Nos. 375 and 381 Portobello Road to Part II of the Schedule to the
Order as land outside the clearance area. The redevelopment of this
site will comprise two blocks of dwellings containing 18 maisonnettes
