As in previous years the children are weighed and advice given
to the Mothers at every attendance.
That the Centres continue to be appreciated is shown by the
steady increase in the number of attendances: In 1922 there were
22,218, in 1923 24,261, whilst last year the number increased to
26,068. Arrangements are now being made to acquire suitable
premises for an additional Centre to serve the needs of those
residents in the vicinity of lower Charlton.
Minor Ailment Centre, Borough Hall.—Facilities are
afforded at this Centre for the treatment of children suffering from
minor ailments arising from ear, nose and throat trouble, eczema, etc.
Only a comparatively small number of cases, however, were
dealt with during the year.
The following continue their good work in the Borough:—
Local Medical Practitioners' School Clinic.
Health Centre, Deptford Green.
Rachel McMillan Memorial Nursery School.
Albany Institute Infant Consultation and Babies' Home.
Deptford Fund—Babies' Hospital.—The arrangement made
with the Deptford Fund still operates whereby they receive in
their Hospital such Greenwich cases as are recommended by the
Medical Officer for treatment. During the year 83 babies were
admitted of which 51 were discharged cured, 15 relieved, 6 were
discharged suffering from an Infectious disease, 2 were taken away
by their Mothers, whilst 9 unfortunately died.
Baby Week Competitions.—In view of the success of the
Infant Welfare Competitions last year the Maternity and Child
Welfare Committee decided to hold competitions of a similar
nature under the direction of a Special Committee of local ladies.
