REPORT OF THE TUBERCULOSIS OFFICER.
To the Medical Officer of Health.
Sir,
There is no great change to be recorded in this, the Twelfth
Annual Report, on the work of the Tuberculosis Department.
Last year I had the pleasure of reporting that the Incidence and
Death Rate for Tuberculosis were the lowest ever recorded in the
Borough, and low as these rates were, I have this year to report a
further improvement. Thus the notifications and Deaths from
Tuberculosis in 1924 were as under :—
Notifications.
Non-
Deaths.
Non-
Pulmonarv Pulmonary Total Pulmonarv Pulmonary Total
214 59 273 106 21 127
and the averages for the previous ten years (1914-1923)
276 114 136 31
In at least 15 instances (8 pulmonary and 7 non-pulmonary), the
diagnosis of Tuberculosis was not confirmed after a period of
observation, either in Hospital or at the Dispensary, so that the
corrected number of Notifications should read 206 Pulmonary and
52 Non-pulmonary. This gives an Incidence Rate as regards
Pulmonary Tuberculosis of 2.04 per 1,000, and as regards NonPulmonary
forms of .57 per 1,000, these figures, as before remarked,
being the lowest ever recorded in the Borough.
