Births and Birth Rate.
After adjustment by inward and outward transfers, the corrected
number of births allocated to Camberwell for the year was 3,106,
representing a birth rate of 13·97 per 1,000 of the estimated
population.

These births distributed according to sex and legitimacy were as follows:—

Illegitimate Births.
The number of illegitimate live births registered after correction
by outward and inward transfers was 68 males and 63 females, thus
providing an illegitimate birth rate of 42 per 1,000 births.
Notification of Births.
The number of Camberwell births notified during the year
under the provisions of the Public Health (London) Act, 1936, was
3,052 live births, and 91 stillbirths. This number represents 98
per cent, of the total number of births allocated to the Borough.
In 53 instances in which parents failed to notify the birth or a
notification was not received from any other source, a letter was
sent to the person concerned drawing attention to the neglect to
comply with the requirements of the above Act.
