Examination of the 214 deaths of infants under one year discloses
that 65 occurred during the first four weeks after birth;
55 between 4 weeks and 3 months, and 94 between the period of
3 months and 1 year. The increase in the number of deaths was
mainly attributable to pneumonia and premature births.
Neo-Natal Mortality.
The neo-natal mortality, i.e., the deaths occurring in the first
four weeks of life, has not decreased in the same proportion in recent
years as the number of deaths recorded in the first year of life. The

for the last five years:—
