bv the Registrar-General 457 deaths of St. Pancras parishioners who died in
institutions in other parts of the County of London and institutions
connected therewith, and 39 who died in other parts of England and Wales.
The net figure on which the death rate is based is corrected for these inward
and outward transfers.
In Table 1, on page 100, the corresponding figures for the past ten years
will be found. It will be seen that the mortality for 1919 was the lowest on
record. There were 984 less deaths than in 1918, when the mortality was
swollen by the influenza epidemic. The increased mortality from that disease
continued during 1919, especially in the early part of the year, and there were
260 deaths attributed to influenza. It would appear, therefore, that except
for that particular cause of death, the death rate for the year would have
been still lower.
