725 births occurred in Public Institutions in St. Pancras, equal to 191 per
cent, of the total births which took place in the Borough.
Table 5, on page 107, shows the birth-rate for 1919 of England and
"Wales, the County of London, the several Metropolitan Boroughs, and the
thirty large towns with populations exceeding 125,000.
Illegitimacy.
Of the 3,804 births which took place in the Borough during 1919, 302,
or 7.9 per cent., were returned as illegitimate.
Of the 3,824 births to parishioners within and without the Borough, 222, or
8.4 per cent., were returned as illegitimate. The corresponding figures for
1918, 1917, 1916, 1915, 1914 and 1913, were 9.5, 7.2, 7.0, 5.4 4.4, and 4.7
per cent, respectively.

DEATHS.
Deaths of civilians only are included in the following figures.
The net number of St. Pancras (civil) deaths registered during the year
was 2,930, making an annual death rate of 13.4 per thousand civil
population. (The death rate calculated upon the estimated total population
would be 12.8 per thousand).
The number of (civil) deaths registered during the year as having taken
place in the Borough was 3,104. Of these 670 were of persons whose
residence was not in St. Pancras (non-parishioners), 578 dying in St. Pancras
institutions, and 92 in other parts of the Borough. There were also reported
