The 44 instances where matters needed attention included
cases where the premises generally, or kitchen and scullery particularly,
needed cleansing and lime-washing, 5 where the sanitary
arrangements were defective and 8 for want of ashpit.
An Inspector is on duty every Saturday evening for the purpose
of inspecting shops and other premises where food is prepared, sold
or exposed.
At the Foreign Animals' Wharf, now being used as a Reserve
Supply Depot for Army Stores, there is still a quantity of such
stores containing amongst them a large proportion of provisions
unfit for the food of man, and from time to time applications are
made to allow quantities of such stores to be released for purposes
other than for human food.
During the year 11 tons, 11 cwt., 2 qrs., 4 lbs. of preserved
meat and 11½ tons corned beef in 61b. tins have been so released. In
each case the Medical Officer of Health of the district to which such
consignments have been forwarded has been advised of the matter.
