The chief outstanding need of the Borough at the present
time is the same as for some years past, i.e., the necessity for
adopting some definite measures for assisting the large number
of consumptive persons in the Borough to, if possible,
regain their health, either by means of a stay in a Sanatorium
or treatment at a Tuberculosis Dispensary, or such other
means as the Council in its wisdom may see fit to adopt, for
while so much is being done for this large class of persons
in various ways in other districts, we in Greenwich are simply
marking time in the matter. I am pleased to say that this
question is now receiving far greater attention at the hands of
the Council than it has ever done before, and I have great
hopes that a satisfactory scheme will soon be launched.
A further necessity which has been prominently brought
forward during this year by reason of the excessive mortality
amongst young children, particularly from Diarrhoea during
the hot summer months is the need for some more definite
steps being taken to provide educational facilities for parents
as to better methods of mothering and nurturing young children.
In conclusion I have again to tender my best thanks to
each and all Members of the Council, and the Public Health
Committee in particular, for their continued kindness and
support, and also to the Members of the Staff for the manner
in which their duties have been performed.
I am, Gentlemen,
Yours respectfully,
ERNEST G. ANNIS.
